Calling your doctor if:
- Varicose veins get very painful
- Get worse or do not improve despite conservative self-treatment
- Complications occur including sudden increase in pain or swelling, fever, redness of leg or leg ulcer
- Phlebitis (chronic inflammation of the vein)
- Leg ulcers formation
- Bleeding due to rupture of the varicose veins.
Varicose veins always get worse over time. You can slow their progress and ease their discomfort with self care.
